I found a hard lump in my right breast while putting lotion on after taking a shower on Halloween morning, that was October 31, 2014. My annual mammogram was due on November 1 and I wasn't in a hurry because my mammograms always came back fine and I had actually considered NOT having one done this year. After discovering my lump, I immediately called and scheduled a mammogram and ultra sound. Went for the mammogram then had the ultra sound done, you can always tell when there is something wrong because the tech and the radiologist whisper and give you the sad eye look. I knew then that I had breast cancer, actually I knew the moment that I felt it that it was cancer. No one in my family has ever had breast cancer, I'm the first one. I made an appointment with a breast specialist who did a core biopsy, said that I would hear from her probably on Thursday, well one day later, Tuesday, November 18, 2014, she called me and confirmed that I had breast cancer, I was at work and just sat at my desk in disbelief, even though I knew I had it, hearing it for the first time from a doctor took my breath away. I Went to see the breast specialist again a week later, said that the tumor was small 1.2cm, she gave me the option of lumpectomy or mastectomy and said that radiation would follow after I chose a lumpectomy. Had surgery on December 10, 2014, sailed right through it, met with her December 22, 2014; said that one and a quarter of another lymph node showed microscopic cancer cells and that I would need chemotherapy and that my tumor was estrogen positive. Had my port placed on January 22, 2015 and started chemotherapy on January 23, 2015. I was really nervous waiting to start chemotherapy due to the holidays and everything being backed-up, but my Oncologist assured me that waiting wasn't going to hurt me, since the tumor was removed. I hope to be done with chemotherapy and radiation by mid August this year!!
While I was having my pre-admission testing done, one of the doctor's said to me that this is nothing but a bump in the road and that is the way I'm looking at it!! :)
Update: I completed Chemo on June 12, 2015 and radiation on September 11, 2015. I started on Tamoxifen on September 18, 2015, I see Tamoxifen as my little ninja body guard and so far, the only side effects that I have are mild hot flashes. I want you to know that if you do have breast cancer, cancer is your enemy, not your treatments!
