I'll be finished May 8th with chemo and I too feel apprehensive. Chemo has really tired me out and the affects of it are becoming more but still there's the comforting thought that chemo is fighting the cancer. I keep thinking that I must take one day at a time. There are still more procedures to go through to be cancer free.

YES!!!! I always said I was more scared of being out of treatment than the chemo treatment. got mad at people who said time will ease the fear. So far, all I can say is I'm not scareed 100% of the time it's down a little. I'm stage 3 Invasive Lobular.

I have heard this many, many, times! People have a sense of loss when they are coming to the end of their chemotherapy. You feel protected and cared for during your treatment and all of a sudden, it is over. So for everyone who has this feeling, it is oh so common. You are like a fledgling getting pushed out into the world to fly on your own. I on the other hand, counted the days until I was done and although I liked everybody, I was thrilled to get back to my life, my horses, and my HAIR! I think this feeling of a little bit of loss, and this safe caccoon, is something that will fade as you transition to another part of your treatment or back to your regular life. My congratulations for being done with your chemo..... YAHOOO!!! You will continue to be strong but you are saying good bye to this part of your treatment. Take care, Sharon

I'm so sorry you had to deal with this at such a young age. I was 36 and I was in shock and upset for awhile. I promise it will subside. I remember I was scared when I went from getting a Mamo every 6 months to once a year but my doc said it was a good thing and soon after I believed him. Hang in there. Soon everything in life will get back to normal.

I am Her2 stage 4 inflammatory, and to answer your question is chemo the worst? it was for me, I didn't take kindly to feeling horribly awful afterwards, in addition to that feeling , getting depressed and having your mind wander ... Yuck! I am through chemo, surgery and radiation, I still get Herceptin every 3 weeks , but I feel sooooooo good, my energy level, etc., I look back and actually didn't think I felt that bad! But guess I did, because I feel good now. You will get thru it, just remember, right now, you are #1, take care of you. The good days are ahead.

Hi Christina...it's very normal to have those feelings. Since finishing treatment...of course I'm so thankful. But also there's adjusting to getting back to everyday living. It's always going to be in the back of my mind "will my cancer come back?" I'll try to keep that thought in the back..where it belongs! And it's going to take awhile for my energy to return. My body isn't the same. I've gained about 25 lbs from chemo, etc. We've been through a lot. Physically & emotionally. It's just going to take some time. One step at a time. :). Hugs

I am stage one triple negative BRCA1 cancer and had chemo and radiation in 2009. Hereditary cancer was not diagnosed until after my lumpectomy and treatment so now I will have a prophylactic double mastectomy next Tuesday

I had 8 rounds of chemo and 20 of radiation and was fine until they said I was done......very empty feeling when you think you should be dancing! I was told the feelings are normal and to be expected.

I just saw my Dr today and we talked about this since I'm already so nervous about it. She said it was very normal everybody goes through this. She says it's a feeling of helpless because we are out of treatment and it feel like we just sitting around and waiting to see if it's going to come back! So her advice was to stay busy, exercise, change diet, eat lots of fruit and vegetables since fatty foods are so bad for you especially if you are fighting BC . This way we are doing something to stay healthy and hopefully keep it from coming back. Best wishes ;(

I definitely felt safer going to my oncologist every three weeks for treatments. My last herceptin treatment was may of 2011, chemo was a few months before that. I do worry about my future but I realize I have no control over this and have to just live my life.

It's very normal...I actually just met with my social worker and am headed to a support group and tonight's topic is emotional well being. She says she sees most if her breast cancer patients when they are done with treatment --that's when it gets tough emotionally. I was done with everything jan 27 and am learning that emotional healing is a journey in itself

Ali you are so right. I'm right there with you. After finishing my treatment I find the emotional part is the hardest part of all. Support groups are awesome! I have been a few times in the past but stopped going because I was just do exhausted. I plan on going tomorrow night. I listened to a therapist speak at a retreat my boyfriend & I went to. She specializes in cancer & grief counciling. She was very good. It's just going to take us awhile. We're both just out or treatment.
